The cities of Kenmore and Bothell remind residents that laws governing the sales and discharge of fireworks are different for each city.

While the sales and discharge of fireworks are illegal in Kenmore, Bothell allows them on a limited basis. The city of Bothell does allow the sale and discharge of state-approved Class C fireworks within certain dates. Sales dates are July 1-4 and times vary by date. Discharge times are only on July 4 from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m.

The Washington State Patrol maintains the list of legal fireworks, which includes ground and hand-held sparkler devices, certain aerial devices (small mortars), smoke devices and devices which offer combinations of these effects. Firecrackers, salutes, chasers, skyrockets and bottle rockets are not allowed.

You must be at least 16 years old to purchase fireworks and at least 18 to discharge fireworks.

It is illegal to discharge fireworks on city property or publicly owned parks. Schools, churches and private facilities should be contacted for approval before any discharge occurs on their property.

For the use of illegal devices or any fireworks use outside of approved discharge hours dial 911. City police resources will be stretched thin during the fireworks season and may not be able to respond immediately.
