Northshore students participate with Wintergrass Youth Orchestra
By STAFF REPORT
Sixty–seven students from Canyon Park and Kenmore Junior High Schools attended the Wintergrass Youth Academy. The program teaches students fiddling tunes and jamming protocol in preparation for performing with professional bluegrass musicians at the culminating Wintergrass Festival concert held in Bellevue. The Wintergrass Youth Orchestra, under the direction of Dennison University professor, chamber musician and Georgia state fiddling champion Dr. Andrew Carlson, performed with well-known bluegrass musicians such as Laurie Lewis, Darol Anger and the Furies, Linda Tillery and the female band Della Mae. This YouTube video shows Anger and the Furies and the Wintergrass Youth Orchestra performing Emy Phelp’s original song Down in the Hollow.
