Kenmore Junior High prepares kids for job searching
March 19, 2013 · 9:37 AM
"Career and how do I get there day" took place on March 1 at Northshore Junior High.
"The event began in 2012 and was so well received by students, school and district staff, that it will continue to be an annual tradition," said event organizer Joy Sorick. "It was also well received by visiting staff from Canyon Park Jr High. So much so, that they are following the same format and implementing their own Career Day this spring."
Northshore Junior High used to present a career day at the school but with a different format. The newer format is designed to give the students experience with presenters and recruiters in a professional type setting; one that an adult or college student might experience if they were at ajob faire.
Students rotated by grade level between the individual-presenter rooms, a job fair in the cafeteria and keynote speakers in the gym.
"We feel that (the event) gives students an opportunity to get a jumpstart in their thinking process of what they might or might not be interested in for a career and what classes, preceptorships, clubs they can get involved with to prepare them," said Sorick.
