'Free Love Weekend' at Regional Animal Services of King County

The "Summer of Love" gets underway this weekend, when Regional Animal Services of King County (RASKC) will waive pet adoption fees for the first 100 customers as part of the ASPCA/Rachael Ray $100K Challenge.

"We're honored that the ASPCA chose us for the Challenge," said RASKC manager Dr. Gene Mueller. "Regional Animal Services is the only animal organization in the state of Washington taking part in this year's $100K Challenge, and we're ready to do our part to get more pets into more homes over the next three months. That's why we're calling this the 'Summer of Love.'"

Fifty shelters around the nation are competing in the $100K Challenge to increase pet adoptions, reunite lost pets with their families, and save more animals' lives. When the Challenge ends on Aug. 31, the ASPCA will award more than $600,000 to participating animal organizations, including a grand prize of $100,000.

This special offer is only good for the first 100 customers through the door of the King County Pet Adoption Center this weekend. If one of these potential adopters doesn't find a pet, RASKC will issue a rain check good through the end of the $100K Challenge on August 31. All adoptions are subject to the normal review and approval process, and there is a limit of one rain check per household.

"Adopting a pet from us is always a great value, and during our 'Free Love Weekend,' it's even better," said Dr. Mueller. "As always, all cats and dogs adopted from RASKC are spayed or neutered, microchipped for identification, have received a veterinary exam, and are up to date on vaccinations."

Anyone who adopts a pet from RASKC between June 1 and July 15 is also encouraged to upload a photo of their new furry friend to www.aspca.org/100KPhoto along with a caption that finishes this sentence: "My adopted pet is…" The best photos could win $1,000, $2,000, or even $5,000 for the King County Pet Adoption Center.

The Pet Adoption Center is located at 21615 64th Ave. S. in Kent. Hours of operation are Monday from 3 to 6 p.m., Tuesday through Friday noon to 6 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday noon to 5 p.m. Along with regular adoption hours at the center, RASKC will also be hosting adoption events with community partners all summer long as part of the $100K Challenge.
