In recognition of the passing of Kenmore’s first mayor, Jack Crawford, Bastyr University will honor his life and his service to the city with a personalized brick on the Legacy Walk, a walking path through the University’s Medicinal Herb Garden.

The brick, which will be inscribed with Crawford’s name and a special message, will serve as tribute to a man who dedicated so much of his time and efforts toward making Kenmore a rich and diverse community. Crawford consistently articulated his confidence in a bright future for both Bastyr University and the city of Kenmore and made bold personal commitments to ensure the city and the university worked together toward that future.

Crawford, 80, passed away from a heart attack at his family home in Kenmore Dec. 27, 2008.

At Bastyr, Crawford served as a charter member of the university’s Community Advisory Committee and is remembered for his efforts to link the university and the city of Kenmore. He frequently expressed his appreciation for Bastyr University and its important role in the Kenmore community.

“It is our great privilege to honor Jack Crawford with the placement of this brick. With it, we will remember Jack’s nurturing spirit and be glad that we knew him,” said Bastyr President Daniel K. Church. “As our first mayor, Jack Crawford left an indelible print of optimism on our community.”
