Students from Fernwood Elementary School in the Northshore School District will be performing their third-annual benefit concert to raise funds for the Mokono Boarding School and Orphanage in Uganda at 7 p.m. May 27. Seattle jazz pianist Overton Berry will be the guest.

Fernwood Elementary has a five-year history with Sister Schools, a local nonprofit organization that partners schools in western Washington with schools and orphanages in Uganda. During this time, Fernwood students have donated thousands of pounds of school supplies, toiletry items, games, books, sports equipment and clothing to the children Ugandan schools. In the spring of 2009, children from the orphanage spent two weeks in the Seattle area, visiting local schools and sharing their own style of music and dance with Fernwood students.

This year’s concert will be held at the Northshore Performing Arts Center. Tickets may be purchased by calling (425) 408-4563 or e-mailing Katherine Berry at kberry@nsd.org.
