On June 2, students from the Evergreen Academy Elementary School in Bothell held a farmer’s market for their families, school staff and neighbors.

Over the course of the school year, students planned and cared for their classroom gardens and using ingredients they grew themselves, each grade created hand-made products to market and sell. Items included bee baths, pressed cards, lavender soaps and scrubs, infused water and herb packets ranging in price from $1-10. Student-made dog toys were also sold to raise money for the Humane Society.

Students were encouraged to set up their own booths to sell creations they made at home with their families.

Local businesses were also invited to participate. Those in attendance included a catering company, a high-end jewelry representative, a bakery, a honey farmer and an essential oil distributor.

A group of students performed on recorders and ukuleles for entertainment.

“Such an amazing afternoon,” said one kindergarten parent whose hands were filled with lavender sugar scrub, lemonade, cupcakes, sock puppets and hand-painted rock creations. “The kids are so proud of all their hard work and it’s such a positive way to connect as a school!”

The class projects collected $1,500 and another $150 will be donated to the Humane Society.

“The students, staff and families have done an incredible job to make this event such a success,” said Principal Whitney Ball. “The farmer’s market is a celebration of who we are as a school community. It gives our students real life experience that enriches their academic learning but also nourishes them socially and personally. It is one of our favorite school events!”

Evergreen is a K-5 private elementary school that has been in the Bothell community for more than 40 years.
