Evergreen Academy students donate 259 pounds of food, other items for Hopelink

On Friday, students from Evergreen Academy Elementary School’s summer camp program donated 259 pounds of non-perishable food and other items to the Hopelink location in Kirkland.

Principal Whitney Ball said the donations came from third- through fifth-graders as well as preschoolers at both their Bothell and Kirkland campuses. There were about 120 students involved.

Ball said they discussed with students how, according to Hopelink, about 16,000 kids go without regular lunches during the summer months and so the school focused on collecting kid-friendly, non-perishable food items that youngsters would be able to prepare by themselves if they were on their own.

The school also collected toiletries to donate to Hopelink.

The donation drive lasted two weeks from July 3 through Friday.
