Firefighters extinguish Kenmore boat blaze

January 5, 2012 · 10:34 AM

The Northshore Fire Department was dispatched at 8:38 a.m. Jan. 4 to a boat fire on a 40-foot 1978 Egg Harbor Sport Fisher at the Habour Village Marina located on Northeast 175 Street in Kenmore. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered the smoke and flames coming from the back of the boat, according to Jeff LaFlam, fire marshal, in a press release. Quick actions by the responding firefighters minimized damage to the boat and prevented fire damage to any adjacent vessels. The recent installation of a standpipe system at the marina aided the firefighters in their rapid attack on the fire.

A nearby boat owner had immediately called 911 after he noticed smoke coming from the back of the boat.

There were no firefighter or civilian injuries. Damages to the boat are estimated at $5,000. A  King County Fire Investigator responded and determined the cause of the fire to be an electrical malfunction.
