Local angler reels in a whopper, named 'Catch of the Week'

Bothell resident Ray Jennings recently landed the catch of his life, a 36-pound, 3-ounce Chinook Salmon he reeled in while fishing on a charterboat out of Westport, located on the coast near Grays Harbor.

Jennings' catch netted him the Westport Catch of the Week honors and the Charterboat Association's daily prize of $225.

If Jennings' catch holds up through the fishing season as the largest Chinook, he will win the grand prize of $2,500.

According to a Westport press release, Chinook and Coho salmon runs are very strong including an estimated at 140,000 Coho and 14,000 Chinook, as well as rockfish and lingcod.
