Local angler reels in a whopper, named 'Catch of the Week'
By STAFF REPORT
Bothell resident Ray Jennings recently landed the catch of his life, a 36-pound, 3-ounce Chinook Salmon he reeled in while fishing on a charterboat out of Westport, located on the coast near Grays Harbor. Jennings' catch netted him the Westport Catch of the Week honors and the Charterboat Association's daily prize of $225. If Jennings' catch holds up through the fishing season as the largest Chinook, he will win the grand prize of $2,500. According to a Westport press release, Chinook and Coho salmon runs are very strong including an estimated at 140,000 Coho and 14,000 Chinook, as well as rockfish and lingcod. The all-species salmon season runs through Sept. 23, Sundays through Thursdays. For more information, visit www.charterwestport.com/seasons.html and www.charterwestport.com/fishingreport.php.
