Ferguson is apparent winner in Attorney General race, Constantine talks vacated county council seat

With new election numbers showing King County Council member Bob Ferguson with a nearly 200,000 vote lead over fellow councilman Reagan Dunn for Attorney General, King County Executive Dow Constantine has begun talking about a replacement for Freguson.

“His election will create a vacancy on the council and I will work to ensure the people of his district are represented by a qualified councilmember," said Constantine.

After redistricting took place with the 2010 Census, Ferguson's first district was redrawn to cover Kenmore, Bothell and Finn Hill in Kirkland, along with parts of Shoreline, Lake City and Lake Forrest Park.

Constantine said that after the election is certified he will convene a "stakeholder" committee that is "representative of the district."

"The committee’s job will be to vet the candidates who apply for the vacancy, and pass along all qualified candidates to me," said Constantine.

The Executive said that he will then recommend three people to the council for members to vote on.

“This will enable the council to fill the position as soon as it officially becomes vacant," said Constantine. "Applicants should plan to submit a resume and statement of qualifications to the stakeholder committee after the election is certified.”

Certification of the election will take place at the county level on Nov. 27. The Washington Secretary of State will certify all election results by Dec. 6.
