The first of what could become many candidates for the Snohomish County Executive's position announced a run for the office today.
Snohomish County Sheriff John Lovick officially confirmed that he intends to seek the position.
"After careful consideration and consultation with family and colleagues, I have decided to seek appointment to the position of Snohomish County Executive," said Lovick in a statement. "It has been an honor to serve as Snohomish County Sheriff the past five years. During this time I have been truly fortunate to work alongside the dedicated Snohomish County employees who share my commitment to public service. It has reinforced what I have known for decades: Snohomish County is a fine place to call home, build a career and raise a family."
He also served in the Washington State Patrol for 31 years and has political experience, serving in the state Legislature for nine years from the 44th district.
The current Snohomish County Executive Aaron Reardon announced last week that he was resigning at the end of May. The announcement comes after multiple controversies stifled his office with allegations of Reardon spending county money on a mistress, misusing campaign funds and associates being behind public records requests attempting to dig up dirt on political opponents.
