Affordable housing service expands to Snohomish County

Snohomish County and others are joining with local housing and service providers to increase affordable housing options through a free rental listing service called Housing Search NW.

The free property search for renters in Snohomish County will launch in April and can be found at www.housingsearchnw.org. The service, which initially served only King County, has recently expanded statewide thanks to funding from the Washington State Department of Commerce and Department of Social & Health Services.

Together with local housing providers, Snohomish County’s Human Services Department, WorkForce Development Council of Snohomish County and the Housing Consortium of Everett and Snohomish County are getting additional affordable housing listings on the site for renters in need. The goal is to increase listings and thus increase the number of families and individuals living in stable housing.

“We’re continually looking for innovative ways to create affordable housing opportunities for Snohomish County residents,” said Snohomish County Executive Aaron Reardon. “Accessible affordable housing is vital for our workforce and our economy, especially as there are still so many families and individuals in need.”

The service offers landlords – including those with critically needed affordable and special-needs housing – a free way to advertise properties while helping renters easily find units to fit their needs.

“We must continue to develop an array of housing options and streamline access, especially for our families and individuals who are struggling,” said Ken Stark, Snohomish County’s Human Services director.

HousingSearchNW.org offers 24-hour access to add and update property listings. Detailed listings let landlords highlight amenities and special features, and landlords can use free property search tools to do neighborhood and pricing comparisons. All property providers with Snohomish County rentals are encouraged to list as soon as possible.

To begin listing on HousingSearchNW.org, landlords can register online or by phone at 1-877-428-8844. Renters do not need to register to search listings.

For more information, visit www.HousingSearchNW.org or call 1-877-428-8844, 6 a.m.-5 p.m. PST, Monday-Friday, to speak with a representative.
