Local inflation rate is below national average
Yes, prices are up, but it could be worse.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics today released this summer's inflation figures and prices in the Seattle area are not increasing as fast as the national average.
Items of note from Tuesday's release include:
• Prices in the Seattle area were unchanged for the two months ending August 2013, while up 1.1 percent over the past 12 months;
• Rent prices rose 1.3 percent since June, and 5 percent over the year;
• From June to August apparel prices decreased 0.7 percent while energy prices rose 0.4 percent;
• The all items less food and energy index decreased 0.1 percent over the past 2 months, while up 1.3 percent over the past year;
Nationally, prices increased 1.5 percent over the last 12 months.
