Inglemoor student delegates win model United Nations Awards

Inglemoor High School sent their largest student delegation ever to participate in the Vancouver Model United Nations conference held Feb. 22-23 in Surrey, British Columbia and returned home with 11 awards, three of which were the prestigious Best Delegate Award.

Laura Srebnik—Special Political and Decolonization Committee

Tristan Wisont—Social, Humanitarian and Cultural Committee

Helen Zhang—International Court of Justice

 

Outstanding Delegate Award

Cindy Kuang—World Health Organization

Kristin Lie—International Court of Justice

 

Honorable Mention Award

Tobin Hansen—U.N. Human Rights Council

Arthur Taylor—Social, Humanitarian and Cultural Committee

Andrew Szot—U.N. Office on Drugs and Crime

Alex Bernard­—Joint Crisis Committee

 

Research Award

Alyssa Chow—Disarmament and International Security Committee

Nikhil Mandalaparthy—U.N. Human Rights Council

Model United Nations, also know as Model UN or MUN, is a conference similar to the United Nations in which students participate as delegates to various U.N. Committees. Participants research and formulate political positions based on the actual policies of the countries they represent. MUN involves researching, public speaking, debating and writing skills, often along with critical thinking, teamwork and leadership skills.
