Northshore Senior Center to offer new classes for residents
This fall, Northshore Senior Center Lifelong Learning Program is presenting four eight week classes, starting the week of Sept 22.
Instructors are experienced in teaching adult education classes. Fee is $75 per class.
“Talk About New Ideas” is a course introducing participants to interesting and new ideas in a group discussion setting. Teachers will show short videos of experts presenting thought-provoking new ideas in varied disciplines. After each presentation, the class will discuss their reactions and ask questions that come to mind. They will touch on creativity, advances in technology and science, personal development, education, and medical research. Classes will be held on Mondays Sept. 22 to Nov. 10 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Great American Trials 1930-1960 is a lecture discussion class. Topics include Clarence Darrow’s last case; the kidnap and murder of the Lindbergh baby; the Scottsboro Boys; the internment of Japanese citizens during WW2; the Zoot suit riots and racial profiling in Los Angeles; murder of an Italian prisoner of war at Seattle’s Fort Lawton; Alger Hiss and Rosenbergs(communist spy trial during the “Red Scare” period; and Brown vs. the Topeka Board of Education—the Supreme Court trial over school segregation. Classes will be held Tuesdays, from Sept. 23 to Nov. 18 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Tell Your Own Story is a workshop where attendees will learn how to find the key points in their lives and write a memoir they can share. The instructor is Gloria Campbell who has 40 years of experience as a technical writer, editor and instructor, including teaching numerous course at Bellevue College. She is co-founder and director of the Publishing Institute and is dedicated to helping writers create and publish their inspirations. Classes will be held on Wednesdays, Sept. 24 to Nov. 12 form 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Finding Your Creative Self is a workshop for participants to explore interesting ideas and ways to make their lives more fun and creative. Classes will be held Thursdays Sept. 25 to Nov. 13 from 11 a.m.t to 12:30 p.m.
All classes will be offered at the Northshore Senior Center, located at 10201 East Riverside Dr., Bothell.
