Bothell native Rebecca Demarest is throwing a novel release party for her second novel in Seattle on May 14. Entitled ‘Less Than Charming,’ Demarest said the basic plot is based around the concept that every time a character is imagined, they appear in a parallel universe where every successive story told about them alters their timeline.

The novel was written for young adults from eighth grade and up. Demarest has written one previous novel and two novellas, but this one is different.

“This is the first one through an established publisher,” she said.

Her book is published through Parkhurst Brothers Publishing. Though she grew up in Bothell, graduating from Bothell High School in 2005, the 29-year-old went on to attain a masters of fine arts in creative writing and publishing from Emerson College in Boston.

She’s currently living in Seattle but said she hopes to see some familiar faces at her book release party.

“I’d love to see people from around Bothell there, it’s been a long time but I’m happy to be home,” Demarest said. The release party will be at Mockingbird Books, located at 7220 Woodlawn Avenue Northeast from 2 to 5 p.m.
