Owners Bill and Jen Boyd have been quietly crafting both their beer and tap house since last April when they leased space from the City of Kenmore’s business incubator.

Since that time, they’ve built what Bill Boyd jokingly refers to as “the world’s fastest brewery tour.”

“Because the brewery is the tap house,” he said.

Sitting behind the bar are large fermentation vats, many of which have taps directly attached allowing bartenders to pour directly from them.

This keeps the beer as fresh as possible, Bill Boyd said.

“Definitely wanted to make the brewing experience a part of the taproom,” he said.

Cairn Brewing opened with nine original beers and will be featuring other local brews and ciders.

Some of Bill Boyd’s favorites include the Belgian Saison, the Scotch ale and the Big Buck Bunny Brown which is a hoppy brown beer, and the only one with a name so far.

“I like a variety in beer, and I kind of want to bring that to customers,” he said.

The brewery is also dog and kid friendly and already sports merchandise ranging from shirts and hoodies to glasses and dog collars.

Two membership options will be offered, including a subscription growler club and a mug club where members can receive a price cut on drinks.

Bill Boyd is also looking forward to collaborating with his neighbors at Nine Yards Brewing and 192 Brewing.

“From a collective standpoint, I could definitely see us doing some events,” he said.

Much of the bar, signs and other features are made from reclaimed wood.

Bill Boyd said the bar has come a long way, and despite taking longer than expected, he and his wife are releived to be opening.

“Its been an incredibly large level of work,” he said.

Cairn Brewing opens Wednesday, May 11 and is located at 7204 Northeast 175th Street, Building A.
