The two were allegedly racing, according to the Washington State Patrol.

BOTHELL — An Auburn man died Wednesday night in a high-speed crash on I-405.

Kevin M. Vaughn, 30, was riding a Suzuki sportbike south on I-405 when a southbound Acura driver switched lanes and struck him around 8:30 p.m., according to the Washington State Patrol.

Vaughn died of blunt force injuries, according to the Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Both vehicles ended up on the left shoulder near Beardslee Road. The motorcycle crashed over a guardrail, according to an arrest report.

Troopers found the Acura driver, 42, of Kirkland, standing outside his car, holding a bandage to his neck. According to the state patrol report, he smelled of alcohol, and his eyes were bloodshot and watery.

Witnesses reported the men appeared to be racing, trooper Heather Axtman said.

The Kirkland man told a trooper he was going about 70 mph, when he sped up to change lanes in front of two bikers, who were riding in the same lane. The man declined to undergo field sobriety tests.

He was booked into the Snohomish County Jail for investigation of vehicular homicide and DUI.
