Election '09: Current results for Bothell and Kenmore city councils, school board

As election officials in King and Snohomish counties continue to tally ballots, the early leaders are remaining the leaders across the board in local elections.

All election results should be certified Nov. 24, but here are the latest unofficial ballot figures available as of deadline for this issue:

Bothell City Council

The biggest news here continues to be the upset of Deputy Mayor Sandy Guinn by challenger Tom Agnew. As of early Nov. 16, Agnew was ahead of Guinn by a margin of 4,391 to 3,894.

In other Bothell races, the incumbents are all holding their own. Councilman Joshua Freed leads Planning Commission member Joyce Wojcik, 4,761 to 3,744. Councilman Del Spivey is defeating challenger Gerry Gawne 4,333 to 3,879.

And finally, Councilman Patrick Ewing continues to lead Jennifer Armenta, 4,466 to 3,909.

Kenmore City Council

Both incumbents up for re-election should retain their seats. Councilwoman Laurie Sperry is ahead of challenger Diane Brennan, 3,515 to 2,086, while Councilman Allan Van Ness is leading Patrick O'Brien, 3,250 to 2,371.

Northshore School District

Upsets are in the making here, as both incumbents continue to fall behind their respective challengers. Current school board of directors President Kathy Swanson now trails resident Todd Banks by a tally of 15,566 to 12,362. Board member Susan Buske is losing to substitute teacher Julia Lacey 17,068 to 11,768.

Along with candidate Sandy Hayes, Banks and Lacey should take their spots on the school board later this month. Hayes went unchallenged in the election, the only candidate to file to replace departing board member Gene Hawkridge who chose not to run for re-election.
