A man was killed and a woman passenger was sent to Harborview Medical Center after police said their vehicle crashed into a tree in the 18500 block of 101st Avenue Northeast around 8:45 a.m.

Police said the vehicle was southbound when the driver lost control, hitting a tree which spun it around before coming to a rest facing north.

The King County Medical Examiner’s Office and Bothell police are investigating the crash. It is unknown if intoxicants or speed played a role in the crash. The ages and names of the victims have not been released.

A police spokesman said drivers often use the road to avoid congested areas of Bothell Way.

Police said the road will be close for hours until the investigation is completed.

Today’s crash marks the second deadly accident in Bothell this week, after another vehicle hit a tree early Tuesday morning on 51st Avenue Southeast which killed one man, and sent another to the hospital.
