Northeast 192nd Street culvert replacement project work begins

The City of Kenmore has begun the construction of a culvert replacement project to eliminate flooding caused by Little Swamp Creek at Northeast 192nd Street, just east of 73rd Avenue.

Work includes removal of the existing metal pipe that carries Little Swamp Creek across Northeast 192nd Street, construction of a new fish-passable concrete box culvert, required utility relocation, road reconstruction and critical areas mitigation.

Full construction activities are anticipated to last through fall. The tentatively scheduled (subject to change) work and traffic impacts are anticipated to be:

  • June – Preliminary site work; regular single-lane closures during daytime hours.
  • Mid-July – Culvert and utility placement; full roadway closure & detour plan in place.
  • August/September – Road & stream restoration; single-lane closures during daytime hours.
  • October – Inspection, clean-up, and closeout; intermittent limited traffic disturbance.

The project will create temporary impacts to vehicle, pedestrian and bicycle travel on Northeast 192nd Street. All users are encouraged to use alternate routes during the construction operations.

  • Travelers approaching from the north can use 228th Street Southwest to connect between 73rd Avenue Northeast/61st Avenue Northeast and 80th Avenue Northeast and avoid the work zone.
  • Travelers approaching from the south can use State Route 522/Bothell Way Northeast to connect between 73rd Avenue Northeast/61st Avenue Northeast and 80th Avenue Northeast and avoid the work zone.
