Northshore School District servers hit with cyber attack

There is no evidence of student, family or staff data being compromised.

The Northshore School District (NSD) technology department learned that on the night of Sept. 20, district servers were hit with a significant cyber attack that rendered many systems non-operational.

“Out of an abundance of caution,” the district shut down other systems to prevent additional impact, according to a district press release. Examples of systems that are currently non-operational include student data and business systems as well as some phone and voicemail services.

The release states that there is no evidence at this time that any student, family or staff data has been compromised.

“We are working with law enforcement and industry experts to continue investigating and to remedy the situation as quickly as possible, but anticipate that outages will likely be several days in duration,” the release states.

Families and staff were notified on Saturday and updated on Sunday with steps they can take to communicate directly with their schools.

In the meantime, NSD’s technology department has been innovating and creating solutions that will support continued learning and business this week, as well as restore the district’s technology and processes as soon as possible, the release states.
