Northshore Schools Foundation grants $73,000

Northshore Schools Foundation Executive Director Carmin Dalziel and President Teri Foose presented showed their love for the Northshore School District (NSD) on Valentine’s Day, as they presented a check for $73,000 to the members of the Northshore School Board (NSB) and Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid during a school board meeting.

“The Foundation is honored to provide this support to our district. Our community is generous in donating to the foundation and allowing us the opportunity to fund a breadth of programs focused on helping students thrive in school,” Foose said.

The Foundation has granted more than $450,000 since July 2014. Foundation representatives said that they are nearly half way to their goal of funding their next million dollars for students.

These funds are being used district-wide:

• Providing access to essential activities and programs for our homeless students and our students in our Adult Transition Program and Secondary Academy for Success;

• Making good teachers great through a national certification process;

• Promoting math and computer science by supporting district-wide Hour of Code Program, and implementing a Project Lead the Way Computer Science Curriculum and sponsoring the NSD’s annual Math Olympiad, scheduled for March 18;

• Addressing the growth in the kindergarten population by providing books for the Northshore Primary Center which is serving 138 kindergartners this year;

• Building community for natural leaders and for the incoming North Creek High School students;

• Celebrating NSD students with the community through the chamber of commerce Student of the Month sponsorship;

• Encouraging innovation in the classroom at 16 schools with our first ever Fall Innovative Granting Cycle.

“The Foundation’s support of such a wide breadth of programs shows their continued commitment to helping students all across Northshore,” said NSD School Board President Amy Cast.

Funds were raised during the All in for Kids Campaign last Fall and through numerous programs presented by the Foundation, including The Taste of the Holiday Wine Walk, Molbaks’ Holiday Shopping weekend, designated workplace giving and annual sponsors including Cornerstone General Contractors, McKinstry, Molbaks’ Home & Garden, Lombardi’s Italian Restaurant, Red-Wood Reserve and Woodinville Wine Country.
