Recently, a reader brought to light an issue they had with the Elections #Vote2015 Q&A article concerning Rosalind “Roz” Gorc. The reader aledged that the degree stated was not accurate.

“I earned my degree in Political Science and History from Northwest University in 1997,” Gorc stated in that Q&A.

Sandy Hendrickson, registrar at Northwest University where Gorc graduated in 1997, said there was no political science and history degree.

“It started this way. That’s often how majors work at small institutions, they start out as small majors,” Hendrickson said. “The demand will then pull them off into their own stand-alone majors.”

That’s what happened with the political science and history degree Gorc claims to have. At the time Gorc was awarded her degree it was considered an interdisciplinary degree with a concentration in political science and history, because Northwest University didn’t offer any stand-alone political science degrees.

According to Hendrickson, there’s nothing wrong with Gorc stating it’s a Political Science and History degree from the university.

“It’s very valid for her to say that,” Hendrickson said. “It would not raise any red flags, in my mind, if I saw a student doing that.”
