What started out as a minor collision on Interstate 405 in Bothell ended with a police officer tasing a man and restraining him to a backboard.

According to Keith Leary, Washington State Patrol trooper and public-information officer, troopers and a Bothell officer arrived at the scene at 11:12 p.m. Wednesday on northbound I-405 just south of State Route 527 to check on the collision.

The man, who wasn’t associated with the collision, approached the wreck and “became aggressive with aid crews,” Leary read from an e-mail he received. The troopers and the officer attempted to restrain the pedestrian when he jerked away and tried to dart into traffic.

The man fell to the ground and the officer tased him, Leary said, and he was taken into custody due to his combative nature.

The Bothell Police Department is handling the pedestrian’s charges, Leary said.
