Climber who fell at Index wall suffers serious back injury

A sheriff’s helicopter flew him to the hospital after he was rescued on Saturday.

INDEX — A climber suffered a serious back injury in a fall this weekend at Index Town Wall, according to the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office.

The climber slipped around 10:45 a.m. Saturday at the Index cliffs that are popular with rock climbers. He fell about 20 feet. He was conscious when rescue teams arrived, sheriff’s spokeswoman Courtney O’Keefe said.

An aid crew from Gold Bar brought the man to a small clearing. A sheriff’s office helicopter picked up the man and flew him to Providence Regional Medical Center Everett.

An update on his condition wasn’t available Monday.
