Bothell City Council helps with Eagle Scout project | Letter

On Tuesday night (Jan. 24) at the Bothell City Council meeting, Luke Mollerup, a scout from Troop 573, presented his Eagle Scout Project.

Luke, a self-described “avid disc golf player,” realized the course at Blyth Park needed some upgrades. So he designed and built a very attractive sign, created a map and arranged for a “Howling Coyote” metal sculpture – the official name of the course.

He gave credit to several individuals, including Councilwoman Tris Samberg and her husband Mike Hablewitz, Scott Purdy of Bothell Parks, his advisor Dave Bloomberg and Dunn Lumber, which helped with the materials required.

The total cost of his project was $1,241, of which Luke had raised all but about $300. He indicated that he would have an envelope available at Bothell City Hall’s reception desk for anyone who’d care to donate.

Then something special happened. Councilman Tom Agnew said he would donate $100. Council member Josh Freed then said he would “take” Agnew’s bet and match it with another $100. Councilman James McNeil then announced that he would cover the final $100.

All of those who helped this young man achieve his goal and earn his Eagle Scout badge demonstrated the best of Bothell. Well done all!
