Playing in a premier 4A Kingco matchup at home on Friday night, the Garfield Bulldogs made a statement with a 89-66 win over the sixth-ranked Cougars.
Despite Zach LaVine's game-high 37 points on 13-of-25 shooting, the rest of the Cougar team managed just 32 percent shooting for the game, getting stifled by the Bulldogs' fast-paced team defense.
Unforced errors also hurt Bothell, as they turned the ball over 23 times.
Perrion Callandret ran into early foul trouble and finished with 13 for Bothell, with Prince Lacey adding 10.
For Garfield, Tucker Haymond scored 29 and added a double-double with 11 rebounds, with TreVaunte Williams and Daniel Greer also reaching the 20-point mark.
With the loss, Bothell fell to 1-3 in Kingco play and 2-3 overall.
Hard-luck Inglemoor falls in OT
The Vikings gave it their all in an effort to earn their first league win but fell just short in overtime to Roosevelt on Friday night, 59-57, their second one-possession loss in their last three games.
Roosevelt wingman A.J. Edwards was the difference-maker, scoring a season-high 28, with Viking senior Chris Bryant tying a season-high himself with 21 points.
Willie Augustavo added 16 as the team fell to 0-4 in league and 1-5 overall.
Lady Vikings top Roosevelt
Viking standout Taylor Peacocke had a game-high 16 and two more Inglemoor players reached double-digits in a 62-47 league win on Friday night against Roosevelt on the road.
The Vikings broke the game open in the second quarter, building up a 35-23 advantage that they would keep throughout the second half.
Chay Fuller poured in a season-high 15 and Kelly Conroy added 13 for the Vikings, who improved to 3-1 in Kingco and 4-2 overall.
Heyer scores 14 in Bothell loss
Bothell senior Kendra Heyer improved her season average by scoring a team-high 14 against Garfield on Friday, but the game ended in a 52-33 loss.
The Cougars finished strong, with a 16-point fourth quarter, but could not overcome a bad first half and 28-point deficit.
The team is still searching for its first win at 0-4, 0-7 overall.
