Inglemoor boys take ninth at 4A state swim meet

The Inglemoor High boys' swim team finished ninth out of the 39 attending 4A teams at the state swim meet on Saturday, Feb. 18 at the King County Aquatics Center in Federal Way, with 73 team points.

The meet was won by Stadium (229 points) with 4A Kingco's Issaquah close behind at 205.

Highlights for the Vikings included sophomore Mateusz Merchel placing sixth in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 54.40 seconds, an event that was won by Eastlake phenom Edward Kim in a near-state record 48.84.

The only other Viking to place in the final heat of a race was Josaiah Clark in the 100 breaststroke, who slightly bettered his prelim time and finished in seventh in 1:01.30.

Casey Colella had a pair of top 10 finishes, ninth in the 500 freestyle (4:51.15) and 10th in the breaststroke (1:01.10).

Inglemoor's best relay finish was 10th – twice – in the 200 medley relay (Merchel, Casey Colella, Andy Chapman, Matt Yusen; 1:42.67) and also in the 400 free relay (Colella, Clark, Merchel, Yusen; 3:21.54).

Bothell's Matt Williamson, a sophomore, had a high finish of 11th in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:03.78, nearly two seconds better than his prelim mark.

He also finished 12th in the 500 free (4:57.69). On the diving board, junior Cody Sodawasser made the finals and placed 14th.
