Head coach: Michael Pizzo, 23rd season

2007: 6-4 4A Kingco (fourth)

2008 to date: 3-1 league, 5-2 overall

Returning varsity: Five

Outlook: Bothell has started the season strong with just one loss to Woodinville, and is in good position to give itself a chance to improve on last year’s record. Pizzo hopes to get one singles player or doubles team to state, and thinks it’s an attainable goal.

Quote: “This group of girls, I would love to coach for the rest of my time here,” Pizzo said. “They don’t complain. The weather has been crazy. We stood outside for five, 5 1?2 hours, and they didn’t complain one time. They work hard. They listen. They want to do stuff outside of practice, which is nice. Very teachable. Very coachable.”

Top returners

• Sr. Erin Kuboshige: Three-year starter and second year as No. 1. Improved greatly during offseason, especially in mental side. Co-captain.

• Sr. Brittni Adams: Talented No. 2 singles player.

• Sr. Estee Kaskes: Co-captain leads off court and at No. 3 singles.

• Jr. Christine Scullywest: Started season 7-0 in No. 4 singles. Been playing some No. 1 doubles, too.

Key newcomers

• Soph. Nicole Henderson: Started 7-0 in No. 6 singles as a sophomore. Beat Woodinville counterpart, 6-0, 6-0, for Cougars’ only singles wins against Falcons.

• Soph. Isabelle Nguyen: Stepping in playing doubles as a sophomore.

• Jr. Devin Porter: Doubles player, often No. 3 doubles with Nguyen.

Big matches

• April 15 at Redmond: Big match right out of gates when they get back from spring break, Mustangs are reigning Kingco champions, but lost to Inglemoor earlier this year.

• April 17 vs. Inglemoor — Northshore matches are always one to circle on the calendar, but both teams only have one loss and it’s to the same Woodinville team. Bragging rights at stake.
