Skyline rides 34-0 half-time lead to 4A KingCo title against Bothell | Prep football

Something had to give. Bothell came into the 4A KingCo title game on a five game win streak, defeating every in-league opponent they faced to climb out of an 0-3 start. Skyline had not lost a game. But ultimately the Cougars were unable to avenge their early-season loss to the Spartans, as Skyline quarterback Max Browne threw for 228 first-half yards to lift his team to the 34-7 victory.

The game was made even more difficult for the Cougars as they were without their top offensive player for the game, Danny Wilson. As a result, the Cougars would manage less than 100 yards of total offense during the first half.

Skyline began the game on fire. An 84-yard kickoff return put the Spartans on the Cougars’ eight-yard line to start the game. Browne then found a receiver on the ensuing play for the first of his four touchdown passes to give Skyline the very early lead.

Browne would score the Spartans’ second touchdown with his legs from four-yards out and then throw a 21-yard pass to give his team a 20-0 lead during the first quarter.

Bothell continued to struggle on offense during the second quarter, as Skyline scored two more touchdowns on the arm of Browne, who will play for the University of Southern California next season.

The 34-0 Skyline half-time lead pretty much put the game away. Bothell kept fighting, finally getting into the end zone during the fourth quarter to avoid the shutout. Bothell running back Sam McPherson scored from six-yards out.

Despite the loss, the Cougars will move on the state playoffs as the No. 2 seed from 4A KingCo. Bothell will face the No. 3 seed from the South Puget Sound League. Date, time and opponent is yet to be determined.
