Bothell to play high-powered Tahoma in Christmas tourney semifinals tonight | Prep boys basketball

The Bothell Christmas Tournament kicked off Thursday night at Bothell High School with four first-round games including the host team blowing out Highline High School 86-51.

The Cougars' Zach LaVine just missed his fifth consecutive game scoring more than 30 points, but still put on a clinic with 29 points. LaVine played a little more than half of the game, as teammates Perrion Calladret scored 19 points and Josh Martin put in 17 points. Highline stayed with Bothell during the first quarter, trailing 24-19 entering the second quarter. But Bothell defense would come alive, allowing just nine second-quarter points, while doubling that output on offense. The third quarter was all about the Cougars' offense, scoring 27 points. to put the game away.

Martin was physical in the paint all game long, collecting 14 rebounds to complete a double-double.

With the win Bothell advances to the semifinals at 8:30 p.m. tonight against Tahoma. The victory also improved the Cougars' record to 8-0 overall this season.

Tahoma put on an offensive display of its own Thursday, going over the century mark with a 106-74 victory against Kamiak. Tahoma was in control during the entire game, including a 30-12 first quarter lead. Tahoma closed out the game with a 31-16 fourth quarter.

KingCo rival Issaquah did not have as easy of a time during its first-round contest. The Eagles struggled to score but won the game 46-45 against Shorecrest.

Edmonds-Woodway defeated Ingraham 72-60 on Thursday.

Issaquah will play Edmonds-Woodway at 7 p.m. tonight in the other semifinal game.

Ingraham will play Shorecrest at 4 p.m. and Kamiak will play Highline at 5:30 p.m. in the consolation bracket.
