Bothell loses to Newport in the first round of KingCo | Prep girls basketball

The Bothell High School girls basketball team lost to Newport Wednesday, 52-37, during the first round of the 4A KingCo tournament in Bellevue.

Newport began the game with the hot hand, pulling out to an 18-7 first-quarter lead. The Cougars kept pace during the second quarter and cut into the lead, trailing the Knights 24-16 at halftime. But any chance of a full comeback ended during the third period as Newport began the second half with a 16-7 run.

Taya Corosdale led Bothell in scoring with 11 points.

The Cougars will play Ballard at 4:45 p.m. on Saturday at Juanita High School in Kirkland.
