The fastpitch softball season has begun and the 10U and 12U Lady Shark teams have both hit the ground running.

The teams had strong showings in the Northwest Softball Association spring opener the weekend of April 5-6 held at Phil Johnson Park in Everett. The 10U Lady Sharks went undefeated in Saturday's pool play. Sunday, despite pitching a one-hitter, the team went on to lose a heartbreaker in an eighth inning international tie breaker during the semi-final game, just missing the championship match up.

This was the 10U team's second recent trip to a semi-final finish. Although matching up against many second year 10U teams, the first year Lady Sharks competed in the Gold Bracket and also finished in the top four in the NSA Fastpitch Tacoma opener held March 22-23 at the SERA fields in Tacoma.

Not to be outdone by the younger sharks, the 12U Lady Sharks also sailed into Sunday's gold bracket play of the NSA spring opener undefeated. They finished the tournament with a 4-1 record, securing second place in the 12U Gold Bracket.

The older 12U team most recently traveled to Salem, Ore. and competed against 11 Oregon teams in the ASA Salem Spring Invitational held at Wallace Marine Park. The Lady Sharks won four games in a row Sunday to secure first place in the consolation bracket, ending with a record of 5-2 for the weekend and earning them an ASA Power Score of 115, third highest in Washington state, second highest amongst teams based in Washington state.

Both Lady Shark teams look forward to a long season competing in ASA, NSA and USSSA tournaments in Washington and Oregon State.

NW Lady Sharks are based in Bothell and have players and coaches from Bellevue, Bothell, Issaquah, Kenmore, Mukilteo, Mercer Island, Redmond, Sammamish, Seattle and Woodinville.
