Longtime referee Leonard to coach Bothell High girls basketball

Veteran basketball official Al Leonard has accepted the position of head coach for the Bothell High girls basketball team.
Leonard, who played football and wrestled for the Cougars, graduated from Bothell in 1974. He has officiated high-school and college basketball since 1978 and inherits a rebuilding team that went 2-19 last season but went to the state tournament in 2007.
Leonard had several stints as an assistant football coach at Bothell, but this will be his first coaching job on the hardwood.
One of the most respected officials in high-school basketball, Leonard was chosen to referee the Class 3A boys state championship game in 2007 and the 4A championship game last February.
Rain City offers volleyball tryouts
Rain City Volleyball Club will host an open gym from 7-9 p.m. Oct. 31 at Kenmore Junior High. Pre-registration is encouraged as the session is limited to 30 participants. Cost is $5. Visit www.eteamz.com/raincityvb for forms or call Cheryl at (425) 481-7855.

North Bothell Little League will hold baseball and softball 2009 registration for players ages 5-18 beginning Nov. 1.
Online registration begins Nov. 1 and ends Dec. 31, 2008 at www.northbothell.org. Walk-in registration will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 13 at the Skyview Junior High cafeteria, 21404 35th Ave. S.E., Bothell.
