Cedar Park Christian sports roundup
By ELIZABETH CUMMINGS
Volleyball Cedar Park Christian’s volleyballers took on Overlake in a battle for playoff seeding last Thursday. With the skill of Candice Whipple, 13 kills and 13 digs; Lyndsay Palmer, 36 assists and six aces; and Kayla Zackarias, 15 digs, the Eagles swept the floor with a 3-0 set win. Boys soccer After an unassisted goal from Bush in the 45th minute, Cedar Park’s Addison Parker came back to even the score in the 57th minute. Both teams stayed firm until Brian Long broke through in the 73rd minute (assist Steven Dressler) to bring home a 2-1 Eagle victory last week. The playoffs are next. Girls soccer During the last game of the season, Overlake and Cedar Park fought for nothing in a sense and everything in another. Win or lose, both teams would advance to the playoffs — this game was more than just fun, but a momentum-builder for later. From the whistle, each player stepped up and played their best game of the season. Even though Overlake scored early in the eighth minute, it was unnoticed to the Eagles as they persisted through and senior Carly Grant scored in the 55th minute (assist Anna Barrett). The match remained a 1-1 draw. On Wednesday the Eagles continue their playoff dream in a win-and-advance or lose-and-go-home game.
