Maria Gonzalez Cuervo defeated Maria Jouravleva, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 1 singles to lead Inglemoor High past Juanita High, 4-3, in a 4A Kingco Crown Division match yesterday at Inglemoor.

Also for Inglemoor, No. 3 Erin Bankaitis beat Michelle Brown, 6-3, 6-3, and No. 4 Leanne Thim beat Tennessee-Taylor Chan, 6-4, 6-1.

In doubles, Inglemoor's No. 1 team of Meg Linder/Ellie Tanaka beat Ashley Monzoni/Molly Ichikawa, 6-2, 6-2.

"Despite two absent starters (No. 2 and No. 3 singles) due to illness, the Lady Vikings stepped up their game and dug deep to win a close match against the Juanita Rebels," said coach Chris Samuel.

Gonzalez Cuervo dominated her match with powerful serves and shots, including a difficult "tweener" (hitting the ball between your legs with your back to the net).

Bankaitis outlasted her opponent in the long rallies to secure the decisive fourth team point.

Inglemoor's junior varsity also won its match, 6-1.
