Inglemoor may have been the talk of the town — and even 4A Kingco — the first half of the year, but the Bothell baseball team has shown it isn’t ready to get off that perch yet.

Bothell, coming off a fourth-place finish at state last year, swept the season series with Inglemoor this year after a 7-5 come-from-behind victory Wednesday at Inglemoor. The Cougars won the first contest, 15-4, back on March 29.

Last Wednesday, Inglemoor led 4-1 after two innings, but Bothell came storming back thanks to Beau Breda’s 3-for-4, three-RBI performance. Kurt Stottlemyer also went 3-for-4, scoring twice. Kevin Higginbotham pitched the complete game to pick up the victory.

Anthony Vitulli led Inglemoor, batting 3-for-4 with an RBI and a double. Jeff Johnson and A.J. Morrow each went 2-for-3.

Inglemoor started the season 5-0, but the Bothell loss was the Vikings’ third straight to drop them to 9-8. A 7-6 win against Ballard put them at 10-6 and tied for the sixth with Eastlake for the sixth and final playoff spot. Inglemoor played 1-17 Franklin on Monday, after the Reporter’s deadline, and ended the regular season against 11-7 Lake Washington.

The Cougars started the season by losing their first two games, but the win in Kenmore put the Cougars at 12-6 on the year before a surprising 6-5 loss to 4-14 Garfield on Friday. Bothell started the week in fourth place in 4A Kingco, a half game ahead of Lake Washington and a half game behind Woodinville and Juanita (both 12-6). Bothell was off on Monday and ends the season Wednesday against Franklin.

Soccer

Inglemoor soccer came up with its first 4A Kingco victory of the season last week.

And what a win it was.

Inglemoor, which entered the match 0-5-0 in league play and 1-7-1 overall with the only win coming via forfeit, upset first-place Eastlake, 1-0, in Kenmore April 22. The lone goal came in the 55th minute from senior David Sifuentes off a pass from Dylan Renkert. Matt Sefton preserved the shutout for the Vikings, who lost to the Wolves, 4-0, April 11 in a nonleague contest. The Wolves were 6-1-0 in 4A Kingco play entering the match.

The win seemed to ignite Inglemoor, which came back with an impressive 1-1 tie against playoff-bound Lake Washington. Graham Humphries scored in the 65th minute with the assist going to Patrick From.

Tennis

The Bothell girls tennis team has been one of the pleasant surprises of the season, currently sitting with a 5-2 mark in 4A Kingco.

Bothell has had several impressive victories on the season, including one against Inglemoor two weeks ago and one against Eastlake last week. Bothell was 5-1, but lost a rain-delayed match with Redmond on Wednesday. The match was tied 4-4, but Redmond came in up one set in the final match, No. 1 doubles, before the rain started and delayed the match until Wednesday. Redmond finished off the 5-4 victory with a 6-3, 7-5 win.

The signature victory was probably an 8-1 win against a strong Inglemoor team, a margin that even surprised longtime head coach Michael Pizzo.

“The season is going better than expected,” Pizzo said. “The girls have decided to play as one and they are just a joy to coach. And they have come together as a team. They like each other on the court, as well as off the court. They have heart, and that’s what’s really important.”

Track and field

Lindsay Finch’s win in the 400 meters highlighted a strong day for the Inglemoor girls track-and-field team, as the Vikings finished tied for 10th with 20 points at the 50-team, girls-only Lake Washington Invitational on Saturday.

Finch won one of the day’s closest races, finishing with 57.92 seconds, narrowly edging Gig Harbor’s Brittany Schroeder’s 57.96 mark.

Tess Parent took fourth in the triple jump (37 feet, 2.5 inches), McKenna Grimsby took sixth in the 100-meter dash (12.49) and Kate Lilly took seventh in javelin (115-1).

Golf

Candice Whipple finished third by scoring 11 points, while Kendyll Clark scored an eight using a modified Stableford scoring system, but Forest Ridge beat Cedar Park Christian, 45-25, in a 1A Emerald City League girls golf match at Echo Falls on Tuesday.

Erica Romann and Enelly Shepherd tied for fifth with three points.
