Bothell’s Jeffrey Goong repeats as KingCo diving champion

Bothell senior Jeffrey Goong repeated as KingCo Conference diving champion on Saturday at Kamiak High School.

Goong, who broke the school record for six dives earlier this season, placed first with 451 points — well clear of Mercer Island senior Benjamin Dixon with 409.4. Goong won the Class 4A state title last season.

Inglemoor’s AJ Smith posted a district-qualifying score.

Inglemoor finished sixth as a team and fourth among Class 4A teams with 278 points.

Inglemoor senior Alex Crotteau, who came into the year with high expectations, won the 50-yard freestyle in 21.53 seconds. Crotteau was just over half a second away from All-American consideration, and set a state-qualifying time in the event. Crotteau also placed sixth in the 100 freestyle with a time of 50.45 seconds.

Inglemoor’s Branden Hinkley also swam district-qualifying times in the 50 free and 100 free, placing ninth and 23rd, respectively. Charlie Bohlin placed seventh in the 100 freestyle and ninth in the 100 breaststroke.

Viking sophomore Quinn McCloskey finished 16th overall in the 200 freestyle and 13th in the 500 freestyle. Adam Bradshaw placed 14th in the 200 individual medley and 22nd in the 100 breaststroke.

The Inglemoor 200 freestyle relay team — Andrew Jumanca, Spencer Straight, Hinckley and Crotteau — set a state-qualifying time of 1:31.93, placing fifth overall.

The Bothell High team tied with Redmond for 10th place overall.

Brandon Stride placed fourth in the 500 freestyle, finishing in 4:58.56. The sophomore narrowly missed a state-qualifying time, but met the standard for the district meet.

Sophomore Tyler Miller also met the district standard in the 500 freestyle, placing 19th.

Corey Stride finished seventh in the 100 yard breaststroke, setting a state-qualifying mark of 59.35 seconds. The senior, Brandon Stride’s older brother, finished 15th in the 200 individual medley. Cameron Birrell finished 19th in the individual medley and 10th in the breaststroke.

Both Stride brothers have now qualified for state in the breaststroke event.

Sophomore Nathan Miller set a district-qualifying time in the 200 free, finishing 19th overall.
