Cedar Park Christian football hires former Bellevue coach Butch Goncharoff

Cedar Park Christian made a stunning announcement on Monday, as news broke that the Eagles hired former Bellevue High football coach Butch Goncharoff.

One of the most well-known coaches in Washington high school football, Goncharoff coached Bellevue to 11 state titles in 16 seasons, and had an overall record of 193-14.

“A year out of high school coaching he is excited to become a part of a Christian school and looks forward to not only coaching football but, more importantly, helping build young men of character and integrity,” Cedar Park Christian Athletic Director Todd Lundberg said.

Goncharoff was fired by Bellevue High School in April, 2016, after alligations surfaced that the program was illegally recruiting students. The Washington Interscholastic Activities Association and KingCo Conference handed down sanctions, banning Goncharoff from coaching at Bellevue for several years.

Goncharoff takes over after three seasons under Bill Marsh. A former Eastside Catholic coach, Marsh battled Bells Palsey and struggled to attend games and practices during his third season.
