Ponti silences Issaquah bats as Bothell shuts out Eagles | Prep baseball

Bothell High pitcher Brody Ponti pitched a complete-game shutout against the Issaquah Eagles on Wednesday as the Cougars picked up a 2-0 win over the Eagles at Bothell High School.

Ponti, who improved to 3-0 from the mound with Wednesday’s victory, allowed three hits in seven innings of work against Issaquah (3-3, 0-2 in KingCo), walking two batters and striking out one. With the win, Bothell (5-1, 1-1) picked up its first KingCo league victory of the season.

The Cougar bats provided Ponti with all the run support he needed in the opening inning of play. Bothell scored two runs off two hits in the bottom of the first, as Derek Lohr swung for an RBI double and Ponti got in on the action from the plate with an RBI single.

Issaquah starter Jared Jongejan was also impressive, limiting the Cougars to two hits and no runs over the final five innings of play, but the damage had been done.

Austin Baek and Michael Eizaguirre also registered hits for Bothell. Corey Chaplin, Bryant Hyun and Mack Mahovlich all swung for hits for Issaquah.

Next, Bothell will take on Newport (0-4, 0-1) at 5 p.m. Friday at Newport High School.
