Bothell residents earn Western Washington University scholarships

Western Washington University student Michelle Howard, daughter of John and Linda Howard of Bothell, received a $1,000 Society of the Plastics Industry Scholarship for the 2009-2010 academic year.

The scholarship is awarded to plastics engineering technology majors based on academic achievement.

Howard, a senior, has earned a 3.8 grade-point average and was named to the President’s List. Howard works in retail management and participates in soccer.

• Stephanie Gallardo, daughter of Gabriel and Veronica Gallardo of Bothell, received a $1,500 Future Teachers of Color Promise Scholarship for the 2009-2010 academic year.

Future Teachers of Color Promise Scholarships are awarded to exemplary students of color whose career goal is to become a classroom teacher.

Gallardo, a freshman, has earned a 3.4 GPA and is majoring in education with an endorsement in teaching English to students of other languages and earning a minor in Spanish and billingual education. She is a student leader of the Latino Mentoring Program, and her professional goals include becoming an educational administrator or principal.
