Runners are in a Can Do state of mind

Travis Garcia-Brownlee (front) runs the 5K portion of the Can Do event last Saturday, which started at the Seattle Times North Creek Facility in Bothell. He ran for his special-needs brother, Trent, whose team won the most-spirited award at the Northwest Special Families and Northshore YMCA event.

About 1,000 people participated in the run/walk event (which also featured a 10K), according to Northwest Special Families’ Amy Young, whose son,  Sam, is disabled.

“There’s nothing like it for me to see them cross the finish line and have the community cheer them on,” she said.
