Bothell High standout Zach LaVine tried to power the Cougars out of a big hole Friday night against sixth-ranked Garfield, but the team fell 59-52 on the Bulldogs’ home court.
Trevaunte Williams, a transfer from Foster High School, stole the show, scoring 30 points and adding 12 rebounds in front of Gonzaga coach Mark Few, who was taking a look at LaVine.
Facing a 16-point deficit in the fourth quarter, LaVine rallied the troops, with guard Perrion Callandret closing the gap to just three with 16.5 seconds remaining, but Williams hit four clutch free throws to keep it a two-possession game.
LaVine led the team with 20, followed by Callandret’s 12.
The next day, the Cougars bounced back in a big way with a 79-70 win over Eastlake at home.
LaVine and Callandret led the way in the shootout, scoring 32 and 26 points respectively to hold off the Wolves.
Bothell’s win included a monster 29-point third quarter where they took a 14-point lead heading into the fourth.
After the Eastlake win, the Cougars improved above .500 to 6-5 in 4A Kingco play and 10-6 overall.

The Vikings dropped to 1-10 in league, and 5-11 overall.
