The Historical Society of Bothell will hold its annual Petals on the River event at 1 p.m. on May 24. Residents can come to Sammamish River Park at Bothell Landing to honor friends, family and community members that are no longer alive by dropping pedals into the river.
“A flotilla of flowers on the water is a beautiful sight and reminds us not to forget our loved ones,” said organizer Sue Kienast. “Everyone is welcome. Bring your own flowers or we provide them.”
Some petals will be provided by The Bothell Florist.
After the brief ceremony, participants can join members of the Museum at the Hannan House for a visit and to see the Memorial Board.
This event has evolved during the past 15 years when the Bothell Museum started its’ Memorial Fund in memory of those who had died that year, and who’s names were placed on their memorial board at the Bothell Museum at Bothell Landing.
Some of the members on this board include relatives long gone, soldiers who died in battle, pioneers and friends.
All members of the community are invited to bring a basket full of flowers and petals to drop into the river to honor special people in their life that have passed away. With each petal, there is a tribute to life; a memory.
