King County Executive Dow Constantine is scheduled for a meet-and-greet with Northshore School District (NSD) administrators, along with a tour of different NSD schools, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., on May 14.

The visit is part of a tour of all school districts within King County.

According to Leanna Albrecht, director of communications at the NSD, they will be discussing financial challenges in light of the state’s McCleary ruling and the inability of legislature to fully fund school operational budgets.

“We appreciate his efforts to reach out to public education to better understand our strengths, opportunities and challenges and to build a better partnership between the county and school systems,” Albrecht said.

The top two concerns are closing the opportunity gap in state funding and also having an adequate support system to help families in need.

During the trip, Constantine will not only be meeting with Superintendant Francois and other high level staff, but will also be taking a tour of schools within the district, including a tour and lunch with Inglemoor High School students, a tour through Kenmore Junior High School around 1:30 p.m. and a few lessons at Kenmore Elementary school from 2 p.m. through the end of the day.

“We will showcase the quality of teaching and learning that takes place in Northshore on a daily basis,” Albrecht said. “We are fortunate to have exceptional teachers, wonderful students, and a supportive community that truly values and supports a world class public education system.  We are proud to showcase these fine qualities of the NSD.”
