American Legion National Cmdr. Charles Schmidt recently made a stop in Bothell to cut the ribbon and decate the new building for the Bothell Post 127.

Schmidt, who is from Burns, Ore., has visited more than 270 posts nationwide since his election in August of 2016 and his next stop is Georgia. He has held almost every office in the American Legion and is a retired U.S. Air Force officer of 27 years.

Schmidt also spoke at a dinner about working with the Auxiliary and Sons of the Legion and the Legion Riders to help veterans and the community. He said his priorities are to get more young veterans to join the legion, to keep the youth programs operating and to be able to get service officers to assist all veterans and their families who have needs.
