One Bothell officer is dead and another injured after a shootout the evening of Monday, July 13.

The suspect in the shooting has been arrested, but investigative teams were still working the area and had State Route 522 (SR-522) closed early Tuesday morning in downtown Bothell. People were asked to avoid the area for the morning if possible and find other routes.

About 9:40 p.m. Monday night, officers attempted to pull over a black sedan along westbound SR-522 which led to a pursuit, where the sedan hit a pedestrian and crashed into the center median, stopping at the 10300 block of Woodinville Drive. The pedestrian was transported to Harborview Medical Center and is now in satisfactory condition.

From there, police report that gunfire was exchanged between the officers and the person in the sedan, and then the suspect ran from the vehicle. When additional officers arrived they found two officers shot, one dead at the scene. The other had non-life threatening injuries and was transported to Harborview, where they were treated and released.

Bothell police found the suspected shooter hiding on a rooftop of a restaurant nearby and around 3:20 a.m., where he was apprehended without problem.

Words of condolences to Bothell Police Department for the officer were already being shared by neighboring departments Tuesday morning, including Bothell Fire Department.
