Galloway memorial set for March 29

Terry Galloway, a popular Northshore School District teacher and coach, died March 19, 2009.

He grew up in the Shoreline area and graduated from Shorecrest High in 1968. He played football and ran track at Shorecrest, earning a track scholarship at Seattle Pacific College, where he graduated in 1973. After college, he started his teaching career in the Seattle School District and taught at Whitworth Elementary. In 1983, he transferred to the Northshore School District and subsequently taught at Shelton View and Frank Love elementary schools as a classroom and physical-education specialist.

He began coaching in the ’80s, first leading an AAU girls basketball team to fourth place in a national tournament. In 1989, he accepted the position of head girls basketball coach at Bothell High and developed a successful program, culminating in three straight appearances at the Class AAA state tournament, two Kingco Conference championships and two Sea-King District titles. In 1990, he was named the Kingco Conference Coach of the Year. In 1991, he was recognized as The Seattle Times Star Times Coach of the Year.

In 1997, he was diagnosed with the cancer that would ultimately claim his life. He regretfully resigned from coaching at Bothell High. Despite being told by doctors he would not survive much longer, he was able to continue teaching and eventually returned to coaching at Woodinville High and coaching select girls basketball teams.

He is survived by his wife, Maureen, of Woodinville; and sons, Ryan and Brady, and daughter, Lauren.

A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. March 29 at the Lynnwood Convention Center, 3711 196th St. S.W., Lynnwood. People can share online remembrances at Washelli.com.
